What is New Paths Horse Sanctuary (NPHS)?

New Paths Horse Sanctuary (NPHS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place. At NPHS we are determined to provide exceptional care for our senior, lame, unrideable equine friends, while at the same time strengthening the bond between the horse-human relationship.

Unfortunately, when horses become senior in age, develop health issues, or are deemed unrideable they often lose their “value” and become “burdensome” to their owners. NPHS knows that the human-horse relationship can extend far beyond the saddle! We strive to lead by example and show the community that a horses and humans can share a powerful bond and engage in mutually beneficial relationships that doesn’t have to involve riding.

NPHS has created and maintains a beautiful, peaceful, safe space for these sweet horses to live out their days knowing they are valued and loved. The sanctuary is the perfect environment to foster relaxation in our animals as well as our guests.

Our horses are encouraged with positive reinforcement training techniques. This style of training helps strengthen the human-horse relationship and creates a safe training environment where the animals are willing to learn and participate.

While carefully monitoring and caring for the special health conditions of our animals we welcome guests to visit the sanctuary and discover the benefits of the human-horse relationship.

Planning Your Visit

Before you visit, make contact with NPHS so we can schedule a time for you or your group to come to the sanctuary based on your specific needs.

What to Wear and Bring?

Can't figure out what to wear? We are an outdoor ranch that cares for large (heavy) animals. Your safety is very important to us. First and foremost, please wear close-toed shoes, boots preferred. You'll also want a hat because this is South Georgia and it gets HOT! Bug spray isn't ideal because you'll be in close contact with the animals, but a loose fitting long sleeve shirt and jeans can be helpful.

You'll want to pack water bottles, snacks (that you will leave in your car while visiting), sunscreen, a hat, a raincoat (if the weather looks questionable), hand sanitizer (to leave in your car), and your camera. In general, if you don't want it to get dirty, leave it at home.

Remember, NPHS is a working ranch. Our primary goal is to care for the animals and provide for their daily needs. While we love hosting visitors, our focus is on the safety and well-being of the animals.

How Much Does it Cost?

There is no entry fee to NPHS at this time, however the Sanctuary thrives because of the support we receive from our visitors and fundraisers. Please consider making a donation when you visit. Your support is instrumental in our success.

* IMPORTANT INFORMATION *

Due to the fragile health conditions of some of our animals smoking, vaping, and DIP is PROHIBITED on the property.

In addition, please DO NOT feed the ANY of the animals. Several suffer from a condition called CHOKE which puts them at risk for a life threatening emergency if they are given any food or snacks not approved by NPHS.
